What the iPhone did for the Mobile Market?

What the iPhone did for the Mobile Market?

Apple has been known to bring about some great chances in any market that they have entered – be it the personal computer, the portable computer, or the portable music device. With their rich history of consistent successes in all of these markets, the world was looking forward to the iPhone, the product that was said to have the potential to entirely change the mobile market –and it did. Here are some of the aspects of a cell phone that we might take for granted today, but would have taken years to come into formation, or never happen, if the iPhone didn’t make it to the cell phone market.

Cheap Touchscreen Phones:

Before the iPhone, touchscreen users were a very small niche, and it was not a particularly successful venture for the mobile phone manufacturer to launch a touch screen. There were several drawbacks of the touchscreen before iPhone made it rudimentary, like the touchscreen was quite expensive, or that it was supposed to be quite fragile, and people taking the public transport in developing countries would not buy it because they were afraid it would get scratched in the heavy traffic.

Because of all these and more factors, the touchscreen phone was an uber expensive product that would be used by only the select few. But when the iPhone launched, everybody with money to spare wanted a touchscreen phone, forcing the mobile phone manufacturers to come up with cheap touchscreen options.

Applications for the Mobile:

Again, applications were something that very few people knew and a fewer number of people used. The most use of an application that a person would do was to play games, or use the inbuilt applications like the Wallet, Calculator, and Notepad in business phones. But with iPhone making opening up their applications to other developers, it unleashed a business and advertising opportunity to everyone. Of course, this was fuelled by the cell phone becoming more of a social networking machine than just something that was used to receive and make calls.

Better Quality of Games:

The iPhone also changed the gaming experience for mobile users. People who were accustomed to playing Snake and other pulled off titles from the PC gaming world were exposed to all new, made for mobile games. The gaming experience for the iPhone was itself helped by a large screen, great graphic rendering by the hardware, and a general ease of use.
